Jonathan Middleburgh and Leon Sacks Join Edge International

Edge International are delighted to announce that two new principals have joined us effective July 1, 2019.

Leon Sacks, who is fluent in Portuguese and Spanish, will be focusing on our offering in the USA and Latin America. Originally from England, Leon is a UK chartered accountant and has much experience in the professional services industry. He was for many years a partner with KPMG in Latin America, offering consulting services. Before joining Edge, Leon was the chief operating officer Latin America at Baker McKenzie, based out of Miami, Florida.

Jonathan Middleburgh is based in London UK, and is dual qualified as a lawyer and occupational psychologist. He has for many years specialised in assisting clients with leadership, career and organisational development. Jonathan was previously at Huron Legal, where he successfully set up a practice focused on the development of senior lawyer talent at the same time as deepening his particular expertise in individual, team and organisational behavioural change.

All of our principals work globally and locally within Edge, and Leon and Jonathan will be no exception to this. We are delighted to have them on board.

Edge International Welcomes Ariela Tannenbaum

On behalf of all the principals of Edge International, I am delighted to welcome Ariela Tannenbaum to our firm.

Now based in Newport Beach, California, Ariela brings more than 25 years of top-tier financial leadership experience, working with firms and global Fortune 500 companies in such areas as strategic planning, budgeting, forecasting, key performance measurements, resource allocation, organizational structure, and risk and opportunity identification.

For more than 14 years (through 2016), Ariela Tannenbaum served as Executive Vice President of Finance-PIMCO, a subsidiary of Fortune 100 company Allianz. Allianz is a world leader in the global bond market, and manages assets totaling approximately $2 trillion. As global head of PIMCO Financial Planning and Analysis, Ariela was responsible for overseeing the spectrum of corporate finance activities for all of PIMCO’s functions and operations worldwide.

Prior to PIMCO, Ariela served as Vice President, Finance at Edwards Life Sciences, a global biotech leader. As the head of the Global Internal and External Planning and Budgeting functions, her responsibilities included financial planning and analysis for all company divisions worldwide.

Ariela serves on the advisory boards of the University of California Irvine School of Law and School of Business, and is a member of the Dean’s Leadership Circle. For the past ten years she has served as a mentor at UCI Graduate School of Business as well as a mentor of Allianz executives.

Ariela Tannenbaum was born and raised in Israel. She served in the Israeli Air Force as an air traffic controller, and obtained her pilot license. She has a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics from California State University Fullerton and an MBA with honors at the University of California, Irvine, Merage School of Business. Ariela is a member of Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society, and she earned a Certificate of Leadership from the Harvard Business School.

Edge International Welcomes Yarman J. Vachha

On behalf of all the principals of Edge International, I am delighted to welcome Yarman J. Vachha to our firm. Based in Singapore, Yarman extends Edge International’s legal-services consulting reach in Asia across Singapore, Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur.

Yarman Vachha brings Edge International the benefit of his 38-year professional accounting and management career, including senior leadership and executive roles with global law firms Allen & Overy and Baker McKenzie. Yarman has a strong record of success in implementing key financial, operational and structural changes to make law firms more efficient, profitable and collaborative.

Working as Regional Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer, Asia Pacific, at Baker McKenzie (2010-2017), Yarman’s achievements included the full integration of two of the firm’s major business units (Hong Kong, People’s Republic of China, Vietnam and Korea with Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia), creating one business unit with revenues of US$400m, and 2,000 staff representing 55% of the Asia-Pacific business.

At Allen & Overy, during his tenure as Director and Chief Operating Officer, Asia and Middle East (1999-2010), he managed the entire finance, administration, human resources, marketing and IT functions across Asia, United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia. He was the only non-lawyer on the Asian management board, and one of only five directors managing the global support functions – the only director outside London.

Yarman J. Vachha also developed strong mentoring and people-management skills in his role as Hong Kong cricket captain (1986 – 1988), both as manager and national selector, and represented Hong Kong internationally (1974 – 1995).

Edge International is very pleased to welcome Shirley Anne Fortina as our newest principal. Based in Perth, Western Australia, Shirley Anne joins our other Australasian principals – Sean Larkan, Neil Oakes and Sam Coupland – to further extend Edge International’s legal-services consulting reach in the southern hemisphere.

Shirley Anne Fortina began her professional career in South Africa, where she was born and educated. Fourteen years ago, after working for several years in the UK, she and her husband moved to Western Australia. Director of the POD Consultancy PTY Ltd., Shirley Anne’s workshops, presentations, programs and coaching focus on a wide range of areas including strategic and business-development planning and implementation, women in leadership, managing client relationships and relationship building, team performance and fostering business acumen. She has worked with engineering and accounting professionals as well as individual lawyers and law firms. Shirley Anne is the author of a report entitled ‘Women in Business’ and co-author of ‘Strategic Internal Communications: Boosting corporate culture, productivity and profitability,’ both of which were edited and published by The ARK Group (Australia and UK).
