Daniel B. Mahoney is the architect and former manager of the DuPont Company’s innovative and award-winning law firm partnering program. In 1997 he formed his legal services consulting firm, The Mahoney Consulting Group, and is now affiliated with Edge International, a global legal services consulting group. Dan has worked with leading law firms and corporate legal departments around the world to customize and adapt the supply chain management methodology that he successfully utilized to design the DuPont Legal Model. The U.K. publication, Legal Business, in its millennial edition, selected Dan as one of the 10 people who most influenced the practice of law in the decade of the 1990s. Thomas Sager, the SVP and General Counsel of the DuPont Company, offered the following testimonial: “Dan was instrumental in the creation of the DuPont Legal Model and his vision of law firm-client partnering and client-driven legal networks has transformed the industry. His practical, businesslike approach to developing systems to improve the value and efficiency of legal services has yielded real and sustainable results that benefit law firms as well as clients.”

Dan and the DuPont Legal Model were the subject of the feature article in the June, 1994 edition of Forbes ASAP. Additional articles have appeared in numerous publications in the U.S. and the U.K., including the December, 1994 edition of The American Lawyer; the May, 1996 edition of International Commercial Litigation; the April, 1998 edition of Corporate Counsel; the May, 1998 edition of Commercial Lawyer; the July/August, 1998 edition of ACCA Docket; the November 13, 2000 edition of the Financial Times; and, the March 12, 2002 edition of The Times of London. In addition, Dan has been on the faculty or chaired numerous conferences on legal services reengineering, legal cost containment and value pricing as well as law firm and corporate client partnering. He also has spoken at many ABA meetings. He was a key participant in the Presidential Showcase Program at the ABA’s annual meeting in 1995 and the ABA’s 70-city satellite seminar on novel fee arrangements in 1996.

The National Law Journal cited the DuPont Legal Model as the reason DuPont’s Legal Department was selected as one of the five most respected legal departments in the U.S.

Dan has JD and MA degrees from the University of Virginia, where he is a member of the Business Advisory Council to the Law School faculty.  He practiced law in New York City with the firm of Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver and Jacobson.
