Robert Millard

Rob Millard has been a partner with Edge International since 2003. Before that, he was the founder and managing director of a consulting firm in South Africa that he built over a decade into an organization employing over 60 people, and then later sold.

A business strategist by profession, Rob draws heavily on global macroeconomic trends and a well-developed strategic intelligence network to help law firms craft the new, innovative strategies that they need to cope with the challenges of doing business in this turbulent 21st Century. Conventional strategic planning tools that have traditionally been used in law firms, he says, are inadequate in today’s harsh, rapidly changing and unpredictable business environment. Forces at play have already begun to fundamentally transform the legal profession and this will accelerate over the next decade. Rob believes in a holistic, integrated approach to strategy, paying as much attention to execution as the planning. He pioneered the concept of dynamic resilience, which is an approach to strategy that focuses the firm on a defined strategic intent while, at the same time, creates the resilience that it needs to react to and capitalize on the range of futures that might emerge. Successful execution and results over time is what strategy is about, he says, not the plan on the shelf.

Rob lives with his family in Freeport on Grand Bahama Island. There, he also coordinates strategy for a multi-billion dollar, long-term project being driven by a European banking and private equity group, to re-invent the island’s commercial and industrial economy.

He holds an MBA degree from Henley in the United Kingdom and is currently engaged with a PhD in Applied Management. As a young man, he worked for several years as a game ranger in one of Africa’s largest game reserves.
